Clinton’s Sniper Slip

Hilary Clinton exaggerated the danger of her 1996 trip to Tzula, but it would be unfair to say that her imaginary landing under sniper fire and dash for cover was designed to illustrate her credentials to be commander-in-chief. She mis-remembered her trip after former Army Sec. Togo West gave an anecdote about it. The remarks were made before she began her substantive policy address and she spent more time praising the work of U.S. troops there as recounting her own illusory adventures.

After her address, a reporter challenges her on the account, and she repeats the falsehood that there was no greeting ceremony. It is, of course, quite possible that the rush to cars and an abortive greeting ceremony occurred elsewhere, and she has confused the two events.

Attention should be directed as some of the more outrageous claims of her advisors instead.
